How big is the Pomsky?

How big is the Pomsky?

There is an aspired, but not yet established, standard for the size of a Pomsky. The breed is new and is the result of a cross between two very different breeds of dogs. The size can therefore vary greatly and is absolutely arbitrary in the first generations. Some pomskies reach the size of a full-grown husky, while others are barely larger than a dwarf pomeranian.

It is also decisive here from which generation of the breed line the dog comes. If huskies or pomeranians are freshly crossed, the size varies more. On average, first-generation (F1 weigh six to 15 kilos. If it is the second generation (F2), the size levels off at around 25 to 38 cm. The mini husky then reaches a weight of 4.5 to 11.5 kilos.

Pomsky Full Grown

The Pomsky dog is a small to medium-sized dog, between the size of the Pomeranian and Siberian shepherd’s parents. Race standards vary in size as they are not clear, but an adult Pomsky full grown is not expected to weigh more than 30 pounds (about 15 kilos.) The length of the full grown Pomsky is 13 to 18 inches.

Appearance of the Pomsky

The characteristics of Husky and Pomeranian are purposely bred into the Spitz-Husky mix. This turns the Pomsky into a fluffy mini-husky or a wiry, large spitz. There are no standardized characteristics yet, so the Pomsky puppies are little surprise packages in the first and second generation. With future generations (F4 and more) a uniform characteristic will be established and a breed standard can be defined.

Build and coat

The ears of the Pomsky are small, triangular and point out. The muzzle is short and the tail curled upwards. The fur is fluffy and silky and varies in the colors black, white, brown and gray.

Pomsky’s blue eyes

The pups of the Pomeranian Husky hybrid are born with blue eyes. The dog’s eyes will remain blue for the puppies’ first few weeks of life, but they will begin to change by around a month old.

The aim of breeding with the Pomsky is bright blue eyes, but the Minihusky can have the full range of possible eye colors: blue eyes, green eyes, hazel eyes or brown eyes.

Odd-eye is also possible and is a popular choice for enthusiasts. The dog’s eyes are colored in different colors. The eyes can also be two-colored. So the Pomsky’s eye color is a big surprise bag.
